- O.M. Y.S.A. Board Meetings
The Board shall meet the second week
of every month with the exception of July and August, the day to be
determined by the newly elected executive. Nobody can attend Board
meetings other than club board members, unless a request to attend
has been received in writing, one week prior to the Board meeting,
and permission to attend has been received from the Chairman of the
Board
- Coaches
Coaches and assistant coaches must
complete a risk disclosure and criminal record check in order to
become a coach in the Okanagan Mission Youth Soccer Association.
Coaches or assistant coaches that
do not clear a criminal record check must apply for finger
printing with the RCMP and then forward a request for specific
disclosure of the criminal conviction to Ottawa. The coach or
assistant coach in question must provide that documentation to
the Criminal Record Check Committee who will report back to the
Okanagan Mission Youth Soccer Association executive as to
whether the individual in question will be allowed to coach in
our club.
Until such time that such
documentation is received, the individual in question will
hold no coach or assistant coach position with our club.
- The O.M.Y.S.A shall be responsible
for the appointment of OUR coaches. The O.M.Y.S.A. strongly
encourages all coaches to continually upgrade their coaching skills
by attending clinics and workshops offered by the club and C.O.Y.S.A..
- A qualified
coach is one who has completed formal training appropriate
for the level of team being coached per the guidelines set out by BC
Soccer. Local clinics may be considered as substitute training where
approved by the OMYSA. A potential coach not meeting the minimum
guidelines may be considered if recommended by 2 qualified coaches
(ones who meet BC Soccer minimum requirements at the level to be
coached) and approval is given by the OMYSA. Such a coach is
expected to complete any clinics within a specified time frame as
prescribed by OMYSA.
- Where there are 2 or more qualified
coaches for a team, the coach with the highest technical
qualifications, such as Community Coach Youth, Community Coach
Senior or other equivalent training, will be chosen as the head
coach assuming there are no negative factors which may make a person
unsuitable for the coaching position.
- Programs
In the Under 6 to Under 18 age groups
inclusive, the O.M.Y.S.A. shall provide two equal programs,
one for girls and one for boys. The exception being the U6 age
category where the club may form mixed teams of boys and girls.
- Formation of teams
The O.M.Y.S.A. shall form balanced
teams in each age group. Where additional numbers and talent
warrant, the Board may approve developmental teams on a year-to-year
basis.
Divisional teams will have 18
players unless it can be demonstrated that a team with fewer players
will provide adequate substitutes for games and players for
meaningful practices. No divisional team will have less than 16
players.
- No team will be formed at the U6 to
U10 age categories where there is not a qualified coach. A potential
coach not meeting the minimum requirements will have one year to
complete the formal training.
- Mini Soccer
Mini Soccer shall be played in the
Under 6 to Under 10 age groups inclusive. All other age groups shall
play eleven-aside soccer. There shall be one Mini Soccer Jamboree
per season. There shall be no cup competitions in the Mini Soccer
Program.
- Playing Season
The playing season shall be a split
season. The spring portion of the season shall be from April 1st to
the July 1st weekend inclusive. The fall portion of the season shall
be from the Wednesday following Labor Day to the Thanksgiving
weekend inclusive for divisional and to the end of September for
mini. All divisions shall play both the spring and fall portions of
the season.
- Rescheduling of Games
No coach or coaches may cancel or
reschedule any game. The C.O.Y.S.A. administrator will reschedule
games only under the following conditions:
a. Field closures.
b. Cancellation of games by game
officials due to weather or field conditions.
c. When extreme unusual circumstances
apply. Unavailability of players and coaches due to illness,
injury or prior commitment does not constitute an extreme unusual
circumstance, but allowances may be made for school
functions.
- Acceptable Conduct
The O.M.Y.S.A. will not tolerate any
verbal or physical abuse of players, coaches, officials or
spectators by anyone connected with youth soccer in the club, either
within or outside its boundaries. All misconduct shall be reported
to the OMYSA Administrator.
- Tournaments
Any travel to tournaments by club
teams or the hosting of such tournaments must be approved by the
O.M.Y.S.A Board.
- "Out of Club" Player Registration
Players requesting to play outside
of their geographical boundary are to get permission
from the two clubs involved. Forms
are to be filled out and filed with the O.M.Y.S.A. administrator.
- In cases whereby one club refuses to
give permission, the issue will be dealt with by the C.O.Y.S.A.
Board at a Board meeting.
Players are not to be placed on
teams prior to obtaining appropriate approval.
